Federal civil rights law protects gay workers, U.S. appeals court rules

A U.S. appeals court has ruled that a federal law banning sex discrimination in the workplace also prohibits discrimination against homosexual employees.  This ruling contradicted a court brief filed by the Trump administration in 2017 that proposed that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was not intended to provide protections for LGBTQ people in the workplace.

Hundreds in Iowa town urge library to label and segregate LGBTQ-themed books

At the time of this reporting, over 300 people have signed a petition demanding that the public library segregate and label “materials that deal primarily LGBTQ issues” and “halt new acquisition of any additional materials that primarily deal with LGBTQ materials before a public discussion can be held about the acquisition so valuable feedback can be given by important stakeholders such as parents, teachers, and faith communities.”
