GLBTRT Programs at Annual 2014

The program planning committee is pleased to announce this year’s GLBT RT sponsored programs for ALA Annual in Vegas!

Both of our programs this year are on Saturday.

First up, is the Amelia Bloomer Project and Rainbow Project Author Panel

The Amelia Bloomer Project (FTF/SRRT) and the Rainbow Project (SRRT/GLBTRT) are collaborating for the first time on an exciting author panel. Two authors with works on the Amelia Bloomer Project list will speak: William Klaber, author of The Rebellion of Miss Lucy Ann Lobdell, and Rita Williams-Garcia, author of P.S. Be Eleven and One Crazy Summer, from the 2014 and 2011 lists respectively. The powerful way these authors treat social injustices stemming from racial and gender discrimination and gender non-conformity in their writing suggest they will be compelling speakers.

Please join us Saturday, June 28th at 8:30 am to 10 am.

Next up, we have Creating a Safe Library Space for All Youth

Libraries are in a unique position to be a safe and central location for many youth to turn to. Join us for a discussion of how we can make libraries a safer more welcoming space that meets the needs of all youth. We are joined by Susan Harmon, Director of Safe Place National Operations who will guide us in how we can make libraries safe and inviting for all youth who may come through our doors, drawing on her experiences with the Safe Place program.

Please join us Saturday, June 28th at 3 pm to 4:30 pm.
