Tyra Banks and Guy Rosenthal are producing a new docuseries for VH1 that will follow the lives of five trans people who live in Chicago. The focus of documentary will be on the subjects romantic lives and professional aspirations. The show is entitled TransAmerica and will also feature Carmen Carrera (of RuPaul’s Drag Race fame) in the role of den mother and counselor to the individuals on the show. Via Susan Levison, VH1 executive vice president of programming: “It would be easy to focus on the transgender aspect, but this series is about so much more. This is a show about a group of compelling, gorgeous young friends who are on a unique journey while staying true to their authentic selves. We believe that message resonates.”
