Archie Comics first gay character Kevin Keller made a huge splash when he debuted in 2010. Since then, he has become one of the most visible and crowd-pleasing of the comic’s gang. Now, he’s going one step further by becoming a superhero.
In line with Archie Comics long-standing tradition of turning its characters into superheroes, Kevin will become the Equalizer. By using his superhuman physical strength, the character will work to right wrongs. According to writer and artist Dan Parent via Out.com, “He stands for equality, and that’s what he’s trying to do … first he helps an old lady who’s getting attacked, then he saves this kid from getting made fun of, which, you know, he’s been in that place before. … He’s an equal opportunity provider.”
