Blake Little’s Photographs from the Gay Rodeo on Display in Indianapolis

For the first time, Blake Little’s Photographs from the Gay Rodeo can be seen at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art (Indianapolis) starting on February 1, 2014. These 41 black-and-white images of gay and lesbians on the gay rodeo circuit date back to 1988. Curator Johanna Blume said, “This exhibit also explores the diverse and complex natures of individual and community identity in the West. Many of the people in these photos were LGBT men and women from rural backgrounds and the gay rodeo circuit gave them a place where they could embrace and celebrate their full identities.” After the exhibit closes on July 13, 2014, the museum plans to travel the exhibit nationally.

The Indianapolis Men’s Chorus will perform at the preview party the night and at noon on opening day. More information is available from DeShong Perry-Smitherman, (317) 275-1352 / dperry@eiteljorg.com
