The Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, signed into law in 2014, both banned same-sex relationships and reinforced prejudice against LGBT persons…and decreased safety for LGBT persons while increasing police corruption.
With 61% of the vote, Carlos Alvarado Quesada won the presidential race in Costa Rica. The winner ran on a pro-LGBT platform, supporting the decision by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
