Even though there is already a law that allows discrimination against LGBTQ people on the grounds of “religious freedom”, Mississippi enacted a second law that goes further by identifying three specific religious beliefs that can be used to discriminate; that marriage is between a man and a woman, that sex should only exist in a marriage, and that sex is determined at the time of birth. This law was enacted in direct defiance of the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court’s decision granting marriage equality.
