GLBTRT Bylaws Implementation Task Force Seeks Three Volunteers

Do you love bylaws? … Ok, do you at least like bylaws?

GLBTRT members approved several significant bylaws changes in the 2011 ALA election. GLBTRT members Peter Hepburn (erstwhile chair of the Bylaws Task Force) and Karen Schneider are forming a small, agile task force to propose recommendations to the GLBTRT Steering Committee at ALA Annual (yes–this ALA Annual).

We will meet by electronic means (phone, webinar, email, etc.) and have a preliminary recommendation to share to the membership with enough time to digest/ruminate/respond before we all march off to New Orleans.  Due to various vacations and fin-de-semester responsibilities, our week for the bulk of our activity in crafting a recommendation is June 13-19, so factor that in when you consider volunteering.

The recommendations we will propose are simple and yet significant. We will be proposing a timeline for implementation, and we will propose how current positions that will be sunsetted by these bylaws will fit the implementation timeline.  We will benefit from expert consulting from Larry Romans, who with the late, beloved Norman Horrocks helped ALA through such restructurings as the creation of GLBTRT from its former position as a Task Force.

To volunteer, contact Karen at kgs@freerangelibrarian.com.
