“Dragon Age: Inquisition” Writer Discusses Trans Character, Fan Feedback

By Ashley K. Lierman

In a recent blog post, Patrick Weekes, a member of the writing team for the recent video game Dragon Age: Inquisition, discusses the process of creating that game’s trans character, Cremisius “Krem” Aclassi. Weekes mentions the feedback the developers had received from queer fans regarding previous offensive and stereotypical depictions of trans characters in the game series, and the writers’ subsequent commitment to providing better trans representation in the future. He also discusses the work that the writing team invested in ensuring the character was depicted positively and respectfully.

The character and the blog post both make for a heartening follow-up to a previous Queer Quest column on this blog, which noted past criticisms by queer fans of the series of its portrayals of trans people.
