Mattachine Society of Washington Returns

Senior members of the gay community may remember the Mattachine Society of Washington, D.C. Frank Kameny and Jack Nichols founded the organization as the first gay political and advocacy group in the capital. After over a half-century, the lapsed charter has been reinstated, this time with a mission of archival research of government documents showing how federal policies banned gays from the federal workforce.

According to the Washington Blade:

Francis and Rosendall, along with a new board of directors, have since reshaped the group’s mission to conduct archival research to uncover long forgotten government documents that show in chilling detail how federal policies were put into place to ban gays from the federal workforce. – See more at: http://www.washingtonblade.com/2014/05/14/new-mattachine-society-d-c-uncovers-lgbt-history/#sthash.iED6T8rw.dpuf
