St. Louis Rams Draft Michael Sam

Drafted by the St. Louis Rams, Michael Sam will probably become the first openly gay player in the NFL. One K Street lobbyist, Jack Burkman, has promised a “relentless” boycott against the team that drafts him as part of his campaign to legally ban openly gay players in the NFL. Burkman claims to have a “coalition of Evangelical Christian leaders from across the nation” prepared to teach the NFL that “when you trample the Christian community and Christian values, there will be a terrible financial price to pay.” Meanwhile, Sam is overjoyed.

Some on the right have predictably freaked out about the Rams decision to draft Sam. Miami Dolphins defensive back Don Jones was fined and suspended by his team after calling the widely publicized kiss photo between Sam and his boyfriend “horrible” on Twitter. Jones has since publicly apologized.

After the announcement was made, Michael Sam’s jersey with the St. Louis Rams became the second most-sold jersey of all new draft picks this year.
