South Carolina Bans LGBT Books

Two state universities have assigned LGBT books to incoming students, and South Carolina lawmakers have proposed cutting $69,000 in funding to the University of South Carolina Upstate and the College of Charleston. Fun Home by Alison Bechdel lost Charleston $52,000 while Out Loud: The Best of Rainbow Radio, a collection of stories from a South Carolina radio show, took only $17,000 from SC Upstate. Fun Home won a Stonewall award in 2007, and Out Loud was on the first Over the Rainbow bibliography of recommended books in 2011.
