Lambda Seeks Participants in Eighth Annual Writers Retreat

This year’s Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBT Voices, sponsored by the Lambda Literary Foundation, will be August 3-10, 2014 on the campus of the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. Faculty include Lucy Jane Bledsoe, Fiction workshop; Randall Kenan, Nonfiction workshop; Eduardo C. Corral, the Poetry workshop; and Elizabeth Sims, Genre Fiction with an emphasis on mysteries and thrillers. Applicants of the Retreat are to submit 20 pages of fiction/nonfiction or 10 pages of poetry to be evaluated for craft, creativity, and originality.  Applications are due by April 1, 2014; 12 students per workshop will be accepted.

The residency has been expanded through inviting the over 240 Lambda fellows, graduates of previous Retreats, to return to the program without requiring enrollment in one of the four workshops with discounted tuition, participation in guest lecture series and social activities, and the opportunity to form peer led workshops.

A new feature this year is the launch of an annual e-book anthology from participants to be published in December. The editor of this anthology will receive full scholarship for tuition, room, and board. Duties include establishing timeline, collecting a maximum of 48 submissions from workshop, editing and asking for rewrites, collecting bios, writing an introduction and bibliography, and creating an edited, final, error free copy. The application, due by April 1, 2014, is available here.
