Bea Arthur’s homeless LGBT youth residence opens just in time for Christmas

Upon her death, Bea Arthur bequeathed $300,000 for the shelter and NYC added $3.3 million.  The Bea Arthur Residence will help LGBTQ youth transition from homelessness and is part of the Ali Forney Center.  NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio declared November 30th as “Bea Arthur Day”.

Washington State considers adding a third gender option on birth certificates

Public hearings were held recently to gain input on adding “X” as an option for parents to choose on birth certificates, and allowing people to change their gender listed on their birth certificate to the “X” or non-binary third gender.

Scientists find the reason why people are gay is linked to their DNA

While this could have important implications for LGBTQ people world-wide, it is important to consider that the research shows a correlation, not a cause.  As Prof. Robin Lovell-Badge, Group Leader at The Francis Crick Institute, states, “Even if a gene variant does show some correlation with sexual orientation, this does not mean that the gene is in any way responsible for being gay.”
