This week, the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners voted 8-3 to ban discrimination based on gender identity in employment, housing, and public accommodation. The move came at the end of a long and contentious meeting that had over 130 people sign up to testify. With this move, Miami becomes the 20th municipality in Florida to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Over 50 percent of the state’s residents are now covered by these protections. For more on this story, visit Buzzfeed here.
