For the second time in less than a month, a violent trans assault has been caught on tape within the city of Atlanta. The first time, two men attacked a trans woman on a MARTA train. This time, a trans woman was assaulted in front of Stratosphere Skateboards in the Little Five Points neighborhood. According to The GA Voice, at the time they published their account of what happened, the police were unaware that anything had occurred.
With so much concern over the ALA Conference in Orlando in 2016, let’s not forget that the following January, Midwinter will be taking place in Atlanta. Violence against trans people is still far far far too common in the United States and around the world. Now is the time to start seriously talking about how we can best protect the safety of all conference attendees no matter where we are.
