(ISBN o-915306-5)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A valuable collection of poems and short essays,\u00a0nearly all reprinted elsewhere, by political activist, social\u00a0historian, feminist and lesbian, Susan Sherman. Her work\u00a0encompasses nearly three decades and comments upon\u00a0many of the complicated, often overwhelming, indeed\u00a0radicai changes that have taken place during these times\u00a0in society and in her head.<\/p>\n<p>This collection is divided into three sections: &#8216;The\u00a0Color of the Heart&#8221; contains comments on her personal\u00a0odyssey; &#8220;Cuba, Chile, Nicaragua&#8221; are reflections on the\u00a0changes taking place in the countries she visited in the\u00a0sixties, seventies, and eighties, especially her observations\u00a0on the women&#8217;s movement in Nicaragua; in &#8220;Divisions&#8221;\u00a0and &#8220;Sexuality and Identity&#8221; she defines her personal\u00a0identity as a human being and as a woman who has\u00a0become &#8220;woman identified&#8221;; &#8216;The Counterfeit Revolution&#8221;\u00a0evaluates the roles of Marshall McLuhan, Jacques Derrida\u00a0and Jacques Lacan and their respective roles in the politics\u00a0of the sixties; and finally, in &#8220;Creativity and Change&#8221;\u00a0Sherman&#8217;s persona as artist and creator emerges: &#8216;The\u00a0work of art is, as a person is, both memory (the past) and\u00a0the activity (the present).
