They are two of the seven winners this year of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftrf.org\/news\/news.asp?id=174768\">$1,000 grants from the Freedom to Read Foundation\u2019s Judith F. Krug Memorial Fund<\/a> for events celebrating Banned Books Week this fall. Charleston will focus on the recent state legislature censorship of Alison Bechdel\u2019s <em>Fun Home. <\/em>Money from the grant will partly be used for a public event of censored music and a selection from the book\u2019s stage version. Raleigh Library will celebrate Banned Books Week for the first time with discussions of LGBT-themed banned and challenged books; an open mic night Read-Out\u00a0 featuring passages from <em>Two Boys Kissing<\/em> and <em>The Perks of Being a Wallflower<\/em>; and a display of banned and challenged books at the North Carolina Pride Festival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to the Charleston (SC) Friends of the Library and the LGBT Center of Raleigh Library!
