This allows them to be recognized as a minority group eligible for welfare benefits, health care access, and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Malta:<\/p>\n<p>Over the last week, Malta has not only enshrined civil unions that provide all of the same rights as marriage, it<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2014\/04\/15\/malta-votes-to-constitutionally-protect-against-gender-identity-discrimination\/\"> has also added protections against discrimination based on gender identity<\/a> to its Constitution. It is the first European country to place gender identity protections in its highest legal document.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zimbabwe<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Zimbabwe&#8217;s President Robert Mugabe\u00a0threatened\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2014\/04\/18\/mugabe-any-diplomat-who-talks-about-homosexuality-will-be-kicked-out-of-zimbabwe\/\">to kick out any diplomat that talks about homosexuality<\/a>.
