Phil Byrant (R) has signed a similar bill for his state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the new law, people\u2019s \u201cright to the exercise of religion\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.care2.com\/causes\/heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-mississippis-turn-away-the-gays-law.html#ixzz2y41Tr4l4 \">will not suffer a burden,<\/a> which is defined as \u201cany action that \u2026 compels any action contrary to a person\u2019s exercise of religion.\u201d\u00a0 That term \u201cincludes, but is not limited to, the ability to act or the refusal to act in a manner that is substantially motivated by one\u2019s sincerely held religious belief, whether or not the exercise is compulsory or central to a larger system of religious belief.\u201d In other words, people can deny goods, services, medical care, etc. to anyone and ignore civil rights legislation by claiming \u201cexercise of religion.\u201d The law has no qualifying language.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arizona may have backed down on a state law allowing discrimination in the state using the excuse of religious beliefs, but Mississippi\u2019s Gov.
