Thus far, AGs in six states have declined to defend anti-marriage equality laws: Virginia, Pennsylvania, California, Illinois, Oregon and Nevada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court of <b>Idaho<\/b> has ruled that married same-sex couples are entitled to adopt children.<\/p>\n<p>A ruling in <strong>Kentucky<\/strong> has put same sex marriages in that state <a href=\"http:\/\/www.topix.net\/news\/gay\/2014\/03\/ky-same-sex-marriage-ruling-on-hold-until-march-20\">on hold until March 20<\/a> while the state of Kentucky decides whether to appeal the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The city of <strong>Tempe, Arizona<\/strong> passed a law last week making it <a href=\"http:\/\/joemygod.blogspot.com\/2014\/02\/arizona-tempe-approves-sweeping-lgbt.html\">illegal for businesses to discriminate<\/a> on the basis of sexual orientation. They join Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson as cities in Arizona with similar prohibitions.<\/p>\n<p>A new <strong>California<\/strong> bill seeks to remove the possibility of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.advocate.com\/politics\/2014\/02\/27\/calif-bills-seek-ban-gay-panic-defense-address-other-issues\">&#8220;gay panic&#8221; defenses<\/a> being used in that state&#8217;s criminal cases.<\/p>\n<p><b>Scotland<\/b>&#8216;s Parliament voted 105-18 to legalize marriage equality, paving the way for same-sex couples there to begin marrying by the fall. Scotland joins England and Wales in the U.K. with marriage equality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hong Kong\u00a0<\/strong>lawmakers are<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2014\/03\/02\/hong-kong-lawmakers-debate-bill-equal-recognition-non-operative-transgender-bill\/\"> set to debate a bill<\/a> that would give &#8220;non-operative&#8221; transgender people equal recognition under that city&#8217;s laws.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disney<\/strong> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.topix.net\/news\/gay\/2014\/03\/disney-to-pull-boy-scouts-funding-by-2015-over-policy-banning-gay-leaders\">pulled their funding of Boy Scouts of America<\/a> due to that group&#8217;s ban on gay scout leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, state attorneys general are not obligated to defend state laws banning same-sex marriage if their discrimination violates the U.S. Constitution.
