ALA describes the program as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA leadership development program which enables newer library workers from across the country to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. It puts participants on the fast track to ALA committee volunteerism as well as other professional library-related organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EL program kicks off with a daylong session during the ALA Midwinter Meeting. Afterward, it grows and develops in an online learning and networking environment for six months.\u00a0 The program culminates with a poster session presentation to display the results of the project planning work of each group at the ALA Annual Conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticipants commit to participating in all aspects of the program.\u00a0 Participants may be offered an opportunity to serve on an ALA, division, chapter, or round table committee, taskforce or workgroup as well as other library-related groups upon completion of program.\u00a0 However, appointments are not guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program is limited to no more than 50 participants each year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karen Schneider reported that the online form makes donating simple by going to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/\">www.ala.org<\/a> and clicking on \u201cGiveALA\u201d in the upper right corner. She wrote that she made a donation to the Stonewall endowment to acknowledge her appreciation to Peter Coyl and the SBAC for getting <i>Cognotes <\/i>to give prominent attention to the winners of the Mike Morgan and Larry Romans Children&#8217;s &amp; Young Adult Literature Award.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Ciszek wrote that donations can be made through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/offices\/dev  \">the ALA Development page.<\/a>\u00a0Choose &#8220;Round Tables&#8221; and &#8220;GLBTRT Emerging Leaders.\u201d \u00a0For those who wish to donate with a check rather than a credit card, a mail-in form is optional.<\/p>\n<p>On January 28th, we achieved our fundraising goal of $1,500 for our first Emerging Leader, but you can always contribute to make sure this program lasts for years to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GLBTRT now has another fundraising projects: GLBTRT sponsorship of a candidate for the ALA Emerging Leaders program.
