This week, a federal judge ruled in a case that these protections extend to trans patients, saying that patients may not be discriminated against based on gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.advocate.com\/politics\/transgender\/2015\/03\/18\/federal-court-obamacare-protects-trans-health-care-patients\">Advocate.com:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The ruling was handed down in a federal lawsuit known?<em>Rumble v. Fairview Health Services,<\/em>?filed in June by Minnesota&#8217;s?<a href=\"http:\/\/genderjustice.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gender Justice<\/a>?on behalf of a young trans man who claimed his Minnesota hospital allegedly misgendered, ridiculed, gave &#8220;careless and assaultive&#8221; exams, and generally provided him substandard care because of his trans identity.
