{"id":1535,"date":"2014-12-28T09:00:30","date_gmt":"2014-12-28T15:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.glbtrt.ala.org\/news\/?p=1535"},"modified":"2015-01-11T20:32:33","modified_gmt":"2015-01-12T02:32:33","slug":"meet-charlie-mcnabb-an-rt-member-profile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glbtrt.ala.org\/news\/archives\/1535","title":{"rendered":"Meet Charlie McNabb!: An RT member profile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Tess Goldwasser<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your role within the GLBTRT?<\/strong><br \/>\nI am on the Resources Committee and am currently compiling an annotated bibliography of media relating to non-binary gender identities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What professional work do you perform?<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;m a Research &amp; Instruction Librarian at Haverford College, supporting the anthropology, education, psychology, and sociology departments. I get to help guide very bright students to develop thesis topics and perform library and field research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you want to tell us about your personal life?<\/strong><br \/>\nI am working on two long-term ethnographic research projects: the first is an investigation of the culture of bigfoot witness and enthusiast communities in the Northwest; and the second explores queer and transgender menarche experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your passion?<\/strong><br \/>\nI have a few. Social justice, access to marginalized knowledge, universal design, and kittens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you most proud of, professionally and\/or personally?<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Pride&#8221; is a strange concept. I&#8217;m very pleased about a lot of things, but I could not have done them without a lot of help. For example, I&#8217;m proud of the fieldwork I have done, but I had an amazing theoretical foundation from professors and colleagues and incredibly giving and collaborative research participants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your goals?<\/strong><br \/>\nPersonally, I want to perfect a vegan and gluten-free banana bread recipe. Professionally, I want to publish a series of articles on my bigfoot research; collaborate on a best-practices document for trans-inclusive sex education; and create a thesis research workshop. In the long-term, my main goal is to continue growing and learning and collaborating with awesome people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you were an animal, what animal would you be, and why?<\/strong><br \/>\nProbably a corvid of some type, because I like games and collecting shiny things.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you could have a dinner party with 5 culturally or historically significant figures, living or dead, who would you choose to invite?<\/strong><br \/>\nFrida Kahlo, Gloria Anzaldua, Augusto Boal, Paolo Freire, and Victor Turner.
