Among these will be recruiting a transgender writer \u2013 especially after the criticism the series has faced for having its trans character played by a man. Via PinkNews:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[Soloway] has announced that she is committed to improving representation in the upcoming second season, and is accepting open applications from aspiring transgender writers who want to join the show.<\/p>\n<p>Soloway and the show\u2019s other writers will give the five best applicants a crash course on writing for TV \u2013 with one gaining the opportunity to work full time on the show.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cNo matter what we did, we were always going to be otherising Maura in some way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd in the same way where I wouldn\u2019t want a man to say, \u2018I can have a writers room full of men and we can write women just fine.\u2019 I can\u2019t say that I can create a show about a trans woman and not have a trans woman writing for me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re actually going to be helping make trans women TV writers by teaching them how to write.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely necessary, and it\u2019s gonna change the show.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amazon original TV series Transparent, which focuses on the relationship between a trans woman and her adult children as she transitions to female, plans on making some changes in its second season, according to creator Jill Soloway.
