However, starting with this year&#8217;s American Community Survey, legally married <a href=\"http:\/\/joemygod.blogspot.com\/2014\/09\/feds-married-gays-are-now-families.html\">same sex couples will be counted <\/a>as &#8220;families.&#8221; While the Census has been tracking same sex households since 1990, this change was only prompted by the 2013 Supreme Court rulings in\u00a0<em>Windsor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Just in time for the change, the Census has also announced that 500,000 people <a href=\"http:\/\/joemygod.blogspot.com\/2014\/09\/census-500k-gays-have-married-in-usa.html\">have entered into same sex unions<\/a> within the United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By John Mack Freeman In the past, the United States Census has always counted same sex couples marriages as &#8220;unmarried partners&#8221; for statistical purposes.
