Lierman<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Last week Alison Bechdel, openly gay comic artist and author of the Eisner- and Stonewall-winning graphic memoir <em>Fun Home<\/em>, was awarded a $625,000 \u2018genius\u2019 grant by the MacArthur Foundation. Bechdel is one of 21 recipients of the award for 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Bechdel\u2019s work has earned critical acclaim and multiple awards, and she is regarded as an influential gay and female voice in the world of comics. A musical adaptation of <em>Fun Home <\/em>was produced this year and will be Broadway-bound in the next year. Bechdel\u2019s third graphic memoir, <em>The Secret to Superhuman Strength<\/em>, is forthcoming from Houghton Mifflin in 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ashley R.
