{"id":1256,"date":"2014-09-18T15:50:43","date_gmt":"2014-09-18T20:50:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.glbtrt.ala.org\/news\/?p=1256"},"modified":"2014-09-18T15:50:43","modified_gmt":"2014-09-18T20:50:43","slug":"ala-2015-scholarship-application-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glbtrt.ala.org\/news\/archives\/1256","title":{"rendered":"ALA 2015 Scholarship application now available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/press-releases\/2014\/09\/ala-2015-scholarship-application-now-available\"><em>Via press release.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>CHICAGO\u00a0\u2014\u00a0The American Library Association (ALA) has more than $300,000 for students who are studying in library science or school library media programs at the master&#8217;s degree level.\u00a0 Scholarships typically range from $1,500 to $7,000 per student per year.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/educationcareers\/scholarships\">application and instructions<\/a> are available on-line.<\/p>\n<p>There are many types of scholarships available for the study of librarianship.\u00a0 These include scholarships for students who are interested in Children&#8217;s Librarianship, Youth Librarianship, Federal Librarianship, new media and Library Automation.\u00a0 In addition, there are also scholarships available for minorities, persons with disabilities and for people who are already employed in libraries but do not have an MLS.<\/p>\n<p>To be considered for one of these scholarships, applicants must attend a master\u2019s level program in library and information science that has been accredited by the ALA.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants interested in school librarianship must attend a program that meets ALA curriculum guidelines for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).\u00a0 Complete guidelines and instructions for the nationally reviewed and recognized <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/aasl\/education\/ncate\/programs\">CAEP\/AASL school librarianship education programs<\/a> are available on the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) website.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship process is open annually from September through March.
