Lierman<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lauren Morelli, one of the writers of the Netflix original series <em>Orange is the New Black<\/em>, recently came out as a lesbian and obtained a divorce from her husband. According to multiple online sources, Morelli saw much of herself in the journey taken by the show\u2019s main character, Piper, and gradually came to a better understanding of herself and her own life. Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2014\/09\/14\/orange-is-the-new-black-writer-files-for-divorce-from-husband-after-coming-out-as-lesbian\/\">PinkNews<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She said: \u2018As we started to shape our characters and debate fictional Piper\u2019s \u201ctrue\u201d sexuality that first season, we engaged in long discussions about sex, gender and our own experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I was finally forced to consider a question that had never, ever occurred to me before: Holy shit, am I gay?<\/p>\n<p>\u2018While it certainly would have been disorienting to begin to question my sexuality after three decades of knowing myself, it was particularly blinding because I\u2019d gotten married only a few months before.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>According to TMZ, this week Morelli filed papers to divorce husband Steve Basilone, though the split is reportedly amicable.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s even been rumored that Morelli <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/lifestyle\/celebrity\/orange-is-the-new-black-writer-lauren-morelli-leaves-husband-for-show-star-samira-wiley-20140917-10i3oq.html\">is now dating Samira Wiley<\/a>, one of the show\u2019s principal actors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ashley R.
