The dotHIV initiative will be providing web addresses to businesses and nonprofits that end in &#8220;.hiv&#8221;. Dubbed the digital red ribbon, it is the first top-level domain ever created for a social cause. Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2014\/08\/27\/us-dothiv-provides-domains-to-raise-money-for-hiv-research-and-prevention\/\">PinkNews<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\">Carolin Silbernagl, co-founder of dotHIV, said: \u201cImagine simply using .hiv\u00a0as you use .com.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\">\u201cEach time you visit \u2018<span class=\"skimlinks-unlinked\">website.hiv<\/span>,\u2019 buy a ticket on \u2018<span class=\"skimlinks-unlinked\">movies.hiv<\/span>,\u2019 or shop at \u2018<span class=\"skimlinks-unlinked\">store.hiv<\/span>,\u2019 a small donation would reach HIV and AIDS projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\">These micro-donations do not come at further expense to the user or the website owner.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\">The sites cost about $17 to register for a business and are free to nonprofits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By John Mack Freeman A new domain ending was released this week, and it seeks to provide websites with a tool to raise money for HIV prevention and research.
