Lierman<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Dog<\/em>, directed\u00a0 by Allison Berg and Frank Keraudren, chronicles the life of John Wojtowicz, who was the inspiration for Al Pacino\u2019s character in\u00a0<em>Dog Day Afternoon<\/em>. Wojtowicz was a complicated character: an early gay rights activist and a proponent of same-sex marriage at a time when the issue was not even being considered by the nascent gay liberation movement, who attempted to rob a Brooklyn bank to fund his transgender partner\u2019s medical transition. The film explores these aspects of his life and more, placing them against the historical backdrop of early gay activism.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Dog<\/em>\u00a0is currently playing in a limited release in theaters, and will be available on iTunes August 15<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ashley R.
