Meet Ana Elisa de Campos Salles!: An RT member profile by Tess Goldwasser

By Tess Goldwasser

Ana Elisa is the GLBTRT’s representative to YALSA, and was recently elected Director-at-Large to the Executive Board! She would like to get more involved with ALA through the GLBTRT and the Spectrum program.

She is an Adult and Teen Services Librarian at the DC Public Library. She says she is proud of her reputation at work: “It’s amazing how easy it is to stand out if you just say yes a few times; after that, people will seek you out.”

She loves hanging with friends and extended family, and reading (of course) mostly classic and international literature (but her book club at work keeps her honest with contemporary fiction and nonfiction). Her passion has been archaeology since she was very young, followed by indigenous cultures and peoples. She says she loves “feeling my brain shift when I have a particularly amazing learning experience.” She also appreciates music, travel, good cinema, tennis, and football (or soccer, but as a Brazilian, Ana Elisa refuses to call it that).

When I asked her if she could be an animal, what animal would she be and she said, “A winged horse with gills. There, now I can go anywhere.”

If Ana Elisa could have a dinner party with 5 culturally or historically significant figures, living or dead, she would invite Gertrude Bell, Harry Belafonte, Charles Darwin, Lafcadio Hearn, and Nikos Kazantzakis.
