Judge Rules Against Trans BET Host

Noted transgender television personality B. Scott has lost a case that he brought against BET. The $2.5 million lawsuit alleged that BET had violated Scott’s gender expression by forcing him to change his clothes for the BET Awards pre-show coverage. In the suit, Scott claimed that they “yanked him backstage” and forced him to remove the stilettos, palazzo pants, and sheer tunic he was wearing and put on pants and a blazer.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos found that BET and its parent company Viacom were within their First Amendment rights to have Scott change. She found that the company had the right to maintain complete creative control over its product which would include wardrobe for all people appearing on screen. Scott is appealing the decision.
