Meet Ingrid Abrams!: An RT Member Profile by Tess Goldwasser

By Tess Goldwasser

Ingrid is a GLBTRT Director-at-Large and just finished her first year on the Rainbow Project. She couldn’t be more proud of the work the committee does, saying, “The world needs more voices represented in children’s and YA lit, and we help bring those works to light.”

She is a youth services librarian, working with children and teens in Brooklyn, New York. She says her passion is making the library a safe and welcoming place for kids and teens, no matter what their background, and adds, “I want our elected officials to fund us properly so that we may have enough staff and resources to do so.”

Ingrid lives with her partner, also a librarian, and their two cats who, she says, “hate each other and pretty much run our lives.” She enjoys glittery crafts, reading in the bathtub, and watching documentaries and is a gin connoisseur. Her goals in life are to get enough sleep, spend time with the people she loves, and drink good coffee!

If she could be an animal she would be a pudú. She tells me this is a species of 18-inch-tall deer, which have tiny horns. Ingrid thinks she’d look great with tiny horns!

If she could have a dinner party with five culturally or historically significant figures, living or dead, she would invite Yayoi Kusama, “Lil Edie” Beale, Alice Liddell, Liza Minnelli, and Pyewacket, the cat from Bell, Book, and Candle .(I didn’t say anything about fictional characters, but it’s a fun idea!)
