South Dakota considers ban on teaching about gender identity in schools

Lawmakers have proposed legislation that would ban teachers in public schools from talking about gender identity in middle and elementary schools.  Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) reports that South Dakota would be the first U.S. state to enact such laws.  However, seven other states have laws on the books that ban “promotion of homosexuality.”

Openly gay Catholic school teacher in Miami fired after getting married

An openly gay first grade teacher at Miami’s Saints Peter Catholic School was fired after she posted photos of her and her wife’s wedding on social media.  Despite protests by parents in support of the teacher, the school insists she broke a contract she signed when taking the job.  The teacher is discussing her options with her attorney.
