Ukraine’s LGBTQ soldiers hope their service will change hearts and minds

A good number of the Ukrainian military personnel recruited since the 2014 invasion by Russia are LGBT persons.  Many have hopes that their service will alleviate some of the discrimination that is normative in Ukrainian society.

How homophobia feeds Russia’s HIV epidemic

Homophobia in Russia and the denial that HIV exists makes it difficult to get treatment for HIV.  And getting tested requires that you state how you contracted it, and a man who admits to having sex with a man is registered to the police and ministry of Internal Affairs, potentially leading to more discrimination.
