From the Chair: Volunteers Sought…

GLBTRT Members:

The GLBTRT is now accepting applications from members who wish to serve on the 2018 Stonewall Book Awards Committees, the Rainbow Book List Committee, and the Over the Rainbow Book List Committee.  Committee members are required to be members of the GLBTRT.  Please indicate in the application whether you are interested in serving as Admin for any of the committees.  The admin role is now shared with the Rainbow and Over the Rainbow committees and the appropriate Stonewall committees.  Admins are responsible for handling the requests for titles for either adult or children’s/teen titles.

The Stonewall Book Awards Committees are now listed as three separate committees.  Please select the specific committee you are interested in.  The names are currently a bit confusing on the volunteer site, but are being updated by ALA IT.

The three committees are:

Stonewall Book Awards: Barbara Gittings Literature Award Committee (above = GLBTRT Stonewall Book Awards Committee – Adult Subcommittee)

Stonewall Book Awards:  Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award Committee

Stonewall Book Awards:  Mike Morgan and Larry Romans Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award Committee

Interested members should complete the ALA Committee Volunteer Form (http://www.ala.org/rt/glbtrt/involved/committees/form) to be considered.  Preference will be given to applications received prior to December 1st.

Stonewall Book Awards Committee members are required to attend both the Midwinter Meeting (in Seattle, WA: January 25-29, 2019) and Annual Conference (in Washington DC: June 20-25, 2019).  Committee appointments will be for 1 year and will begin after ALA Midwinter 2018.

Rainbow Book List Committee and Over the Rainbow Book List Committee members are required to attend Midwinter Meeting (in Seattle, WA: January 25-29, 2019).  Committee appointments for the Book List Committees are available for both 1 and 2 year terms and will begin after ALA Midwinter 2018.

The Stonewall Book Awards Committees are responsible for awarding the Stonewall Book Awards.  The Rainbow Book List Committee produces a bibliography of children and YA literature and the Over the Rainbow committee produces a bibliography of adult literature and nonfiction.

If you have any questions, please let me know, I would be happy to answer them.
