2016 was the deadliest year on record for the LGBTQ community

National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs found a 17% increase in hate killings from the previous year. The group collected data on 1,036 incidents of hate violence 11 states.

North Carolina woman admits leading 30 parishioners in beating of gay church member to expel his ‘demons’

The attack came after a reported two hour long verbal assault against the 23 year old gay man after which church members held him against his will inside the church and continued to beat, slap, choke and verbally assault him.  Five of the 30 have been charged.

Texas Governor Revives Stalled Transgender Bathroom Bill

Gov. Greg Abbot (R) called a special session of lawmakers in an effort to regulate bathroom use by transgender people in public buildings.  Opponents point to North Carolina’s loss of billions of dollars and thousands of jobs while Abbot claims the bill is needed to protect privacy of children.  More than a dozen companies such as Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and others have condemned the governor’s repeated efforts to revive this effort.
