HB2 May Be Gone, But Discrimination Lives on in North Carolina: Here’s the Bad News 

While a “compromise” was reached to repeal the state’s anti-transgender law, businesses are still free to discriminate at will.  Municipalities are still barred until 2020 from passing local laws that protect LGBT+ citizens.  Localities are also barred from passing laws regarding bathroom access.  To make matters worse, that rule does not expire, which means that cities can never pass their own bathroom access laws.  Meaning, owners and operators of restrooms in North Carolina are still free to bar transgender persons from using the facilities that match their gender identities, and even worse yet, when trans people are discriminated against, they have no statutory basis under state law to sue.

The San Francisco based artist and activist who began making banners for gay rights and anti-war protests in the 1970s, often at the request of Harvey Milk, passed away recently.  His iconic legacy will live on.
