Devos Rejects Anti-LGBT Views, But Bruised In Bumpy Hearing

During her hearing, Betsy DeVos struggled to defend her anti-LGBT history; her family has donated more than $10 million to anti-LGBT groups.  Eliza Byard, GLSEN’s executive director, said the DeVos hearing “raised a lot of additional deeply troubling issues of grave concern to all parents”.  DeVos repeatedly denied that she supports conversion therapy, but dodged questions about keeping essential protections for transgender students, saying she felt those decisions should be left to individual states.

The Women’s Marches May Have Been The Largest Demonstration In US History

According to professors at the University of Denver and the University of Connecticut, there were more than 500 marches in cities across the US attended by a minimum of 3.3 million people.  This may be the largest demonstration in American history, not to mention the 100 international Women’s Marches with an estimated attendance of more than 260,000.  Vox plotted the data on a map of the US, which does not include some 200 marches that have not yet reported data.
