Trans people take on bathroom bills with selfie campaign

By John Mack Freeman

It seems like every week I read a new handful of stories about how ill-informed and short-sighted legislators around the country are trying to make it harder for trans people to use the restroom. In response to this, a long-running hashtag #WeJustNeedToPee blew up on social media this week as trans people began taking pictures of themselves in the bathroom they would be forced to use under these bills. Some of the images are below. Hopefully this campaign will continue to highlight the ridiculousness of such bills.

In the mean time, apps like the newly released Refuge Restrooms can help trans people find restrooms that are nearby and safe to use.
