UFC champ refuses to fight trans challenger

By John Mack Freeman

Ultimate Fighting Championship’s women’s batamweight leader Ronda Rousey has refused to fight Fallon Fox. Rousey, who has won her last ten fights, has previously claimed that she could take anyone in the world. However, when trans fighter Fallon Fox challenged her, she refused. Rousey is claiming that trans fighters have an unfair advantage in the ring. She is backed up by UFC President Dana White who has previously said the following about trans fighters: “”Bone structure is different, hands are bigger, jaw is bigger, everything is bigger. I don’t believe in it.”

Now, this is of course completely wrong. Medical professionals agree that after several years of hormone therapy (like the therapy that Fox has been on), there are few detectable differences in bone structure or muscle density between trans and cisgender people. Their “advantage” is a myth. Instead, this is just another example of professional sports fearmongering against the LGBT community. Or maybe it’s just an example of a fighter being scared that she’d lose to someone who was simply better.
