“Fun Home” Coming to Broadway

By John Mack Freeman

Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel Fun Home is coming to Broadway next year. The musical adaptation is slated to debut in time for next year’s Tony Awards. The musical will follow the story of the book, exploring how she discovers her sexual identity. In the show, Bechdel serves as a narrator who is writing the story while three different actresses play her at different ages.

The show has previously played at the Public Theatre in New York City. It was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama, losing to The Flick by Annie Baker.
